The Commission was established by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission Act 200. The Commission consists of a Chairman and two members and is assisted by a Secretary, who is a member, and four other officers appointed by the Government. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission is a public body that is the administrative agency for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan and the functional head of the provincial civil services.

The commission was established as a result of the consolidation of the former General Public Service Commission of the British Indian Empire and the KPK Provincial Public Service Commission.
